Now I’ve personally experienced both the awful and the brilliant side of Package holiday/ breaks if you include a coach break. Oddly enough, it’s British trip I’ve experienced the worst situations. Manky hotels, rude drivers and not following the schedule so from then on I always vowed to organise everything myself.
I feel there’s a divide regarding package holidays, it’s kinda like the marmite mentality.
I do feel at ease, with a package holiday abroad as everything can be organised through one place, you pay them the money and they take care of the rest. I’d still recommend using the wider internet for looking at reviews and photos of accommodation.
Up until last year, I hadn’t been ‘proper’ abroad. I once managed to organise to go to Ireland, on a coach… yes a 40 minute plane journey took 12 hours coach. Don’t ask, it was just cheaper and easier.
But in 2017, myself and Chris booked our first holiday and I had no idea where to begin. I searched separate flights, hotels, transfers, but it was amounting to so much.
Desperate to try and get to Malta, I googled ‘flights to Malta’ and up popped Jet2, the prices for the flights were decent but I then I noticed that you could also book your hotel through them and transfers.
I must have argued with myself for about a week, because I was so worried that going on a package deal – would ruin our holiday, because with my luck I’d have every situation that could happen, happen to me. (oooh such a negative Nelly, but I don’t consider myself a realist for nothing)
I searched some more, and everything kept coming back to Jet2. They also had an offer on saving us £200. We managed to get a short break at the Raddison Blu St Julians in Malta for £1,024 for 4 days in a sea view room, including transfers, insurance, luggage allowance and bed and breakfast.
From the moment we booked, the online customer service team were so helpful with my questions as a new flyer, I must have asked some really odd ones. Check in staff, cabin crew and the pilots were fantastic, they were really informative with details on the route we were taking and keeping us updated on flight times.
We also had support from the in-resort rep who was so helpful and helped us with so much! We had an amazing time in Malta.
When getting off the plane, we received the ‘rain check’ which gave us £60 another booking. (Sadly, it can’t be used on a city break – but hey! You can’t win them all)
Having the travel bug set deeply within me now, I did book again to surprise my other half for his 30th birthday to Barcelona with them and again, the service we received was 5*, I’ve written a whole post on our Barcelona break which can be found here.
I’ve already booked us in to go to Rome later in the year!
But if anyone is just starting out travelling or wants a decent value breakaway, I’d definitely recommend these guys!
